Restauration

Below an overview of past projects that show Tradewind Yachts’ versatility

The owner of the yard, Austin Lion, has been ‘messing about’ in classic dinghies and yachts for a very long time and he has served apprenticeships at various ship yards.  His first large project was the singlehanded refit of a classic 55 ft. yacht.  Very soon thereafter his order book filled up and with his small team of skilled craftsmen he has successfully delivered many magnificent refit projects.

Lona III 1906

If you compare current photographs of Lona III with those of five years ago the transformation is inconceivable. Over the years the Carpentier family have had staunch conviction and stamina to realize the restauration of a sailing yacht that many thought was only fit for landfill. She now is a true beauty of over one hundred years old. The 7-ton cutter was designed in 1906 by Pain Clark for himself and built in Burnham-on-Crouch by William King and Sons. Pain’s...

Open motor launch converted to fishing boat

After many years of sailing our client was ready for a change from sailing to a motor boat/fishing boat. On trading in his sailing boat nothing in our pre-owned range came close except an open motor launch that needed a considerable conversion to meet his needs. Austin’s team turned a mediocre launch into a beautiful fishing boat with a wheel house and and all other creature comforts.

Catharina 1973

Rusty and abandoned is how the current owners of M/Y Catharina found her.  Built in the first half of the 1970’s and later in life sunk because of  a frozen valve.  Once recovered she was soon thereafter abandoned and left as a wreck. The current owners saw the potential and together with Tradewind Yachts she was completely refitted from stern to stem.  They have been enjoying her for a number of years now.

Coridon 1963

Coridon came into the hands of the current owner through Tradewind brokerage. Previous first owner Brian Cole had her built out of teak in Hong-Kong in 1963 after a 1930’s design by Alan Buchanan and Maurice Griffiths. She is a sturdy and very seaworthy sailing yacht with a 6 ton displacement.  Currently she is being brought back to her original configuration that includes a gaff rig.

Scott 1978

Austin and his team successfully refitted this 50 ft steel motor sailer designed by De Vries Lentsch and built in 1978 at the de Vennekens yard  in Boom, Belgium.  The current owner knew this boat from his youth and recently fell in love with her again.  Before he could take her cruising she needed a full makeover.
